Vancouver may at first glance offer less than other major cities. But the city is picturesquely situated on a peninsula with canals, with the nearby North Shore Mountains and Stanley Park. That’s where you should start. For one thing, the views of the city are unparalleled, and for another, the Beaver Lake Trail, Siwash Rock or Vancouver Aquarium are worth a trip. Leave the park via English Bay, find a table in Ancora at False Creek and enjoy Japanese-Peruvian cuisine.

For the young and young-at-heart

After dinner, cross False Creek and browse through the vendors’ colourful displays of local and regional products at Granville Island Public Market. Afterwards, we recommend a detour to nearby Mount Pleasant. This neighbourhood is paradise for hipsters. There are countless boutiques, brunch cafes, hairdressers, galleries, record stores selling vinyl, or outdoor yoga. Locals picnic or play in the park and regularly celebrate street parties.

Metropolis surrounded by nature

Do you love a thrill? Then you should cross Capilano River on the Capilano Suspension Bridge at 70 metres high. You can reach the suspension bridge from downtown via the Lions Gate Bridge and can add a trip to Grouse Mountain. If you love nature and water sports, you should take a detour to Deep Cove or Tofino on Vancouver Island. Tofino is known for its long sandy beaches and vast coastal rainforests.
