Stockholm is spread over 14 islands and is called "The Beauty on the Water". Why? The easiest way to find out is to go to the Skinnarviksberget, the highest natural point in the city center. Locals picnic, gaze at romantic sunsets or celebrate open-air parties here. The panorama – from Kungsholmen over the picturesque old town Gamla Stan and the impressive City Hall to the skyscrapers with glass facades at Sergels Torg – is spectacular.

A lot of history in a small space

After Skinnarviksberget, visit the city hall. All the Nobel Prize winners are honored here. From the 106 meter high tower you have a breathtaking panoramic view of the whole city. Then stroll through Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s oldest district. In the stores you can buy mainly antiques, art as well as handicrafts. In the old town you will find the royal palace with more than 600 chambers, the cathedral built in 1279 and the Nobel Prize Museum.

After shopping and sightseeing

If you like craft beer, you will love Omnipollos hatt. And if you prefer wine, stop in at the Folii opened by Béatrice and Jonas, two leading Swedish sommeliers. Afterwards take a walk to Östermalms Saluhall. The stores in the market hall close early, but the restaurants are open in the evening. Try herring with rye bread and Västerbotten cheese, gravlax with sweet mustard sauce or lobster, crawfish, shrimp and king crab at Lisa Elmqvist.
